To get to the heart of it all, Country Club Plaza, you’ll find directions are pretty easy no matter where in the Greater Kansas City area you’ll be coming from:

  • North Kansas City (Barry Road) to Country Club Plaza: 16.4 miles, 27 minutes approximate drive time. Start at Interstate 29 and NW Barry Road. Merge onto I-29 and go 5.5 miles. Take the ramp onto U.S. 169. Take the ramp onto Interstate 35 and go 2.2 miles to the left Southwest TRFY ramp, which will become Belleview Avenue. Turn left on Ward Parkway.
  • From Overland Park (W. 95th Street) to Ward Parkway. 12.1 miles, 22 minutes approximate drive time. Start out on W. 95th Street headed toward Mullen Road. W. 95th Street will become Cottonwood Street. Follow Cottonwood to Widmer Road, turn right. Take Widmer to Santa Fe Trail Drive, turn right. Turn left on W 95th Street and take the left turn onto Interstate 35 North toward Des Moines. Take exit 228B/U.S. 56/U.S. 69 onto Shawnee Mission Parkway. Continue to follow U.S. 56. Turn left onto Ward Parkway.
  • When it comes to quintessential Kansas City, The Country Club Plaza is a shining-star example of this town’s style, charm and sophistication set against a Midwestern backdrop.Designed in 1922 as the country’s first suburban shopping district, The Country Club Plaza marries Spanish architecture and European art to give visitors a one-of-a-kind experience. Complete with its own open-air art gallery with fountains, European sculptures and murals, the plaza is home to some of Kansas City’s best shopping and dining. Plus, it is the center of attention throughout the year with special events, entertainment and promotions.

When it comes to arts and architecture, the Plaza is one of Kansas City’s best examples of Midwestern culture and flair. The streets and sidewalks of the plaza are lined with statues that make the area seem more like a European park than a Missouri shopping district. Sightseers can stroll past a statue of Winston Churchill and then turn a bend to see replicas of the Giralda Tower and the Seville Light before coming face to face with a Donatello Gabrielli bronze.

The Country Club Plaza is also famous for its annual Lighting Ceremony, which draws thousands on Thanksgiving Day each year. This 70-plus-year-old tradition rings in the holiday season for all who live and work in the Greater Kansas City area.

If the art and traditions weren’t enough, the plaza area is home to specialty stores, local boutiques and international favorites such as Tiffany & Co. With a bevy of eateries also located within its bounds, including Brio Tuscan Grille, those visiting Country Club Plaza won’t go hungry after they’ve taken in the sights. Other special events include live entertainment, art shows and more, making the destination of the 1920s a favorite stop today.
