Farmer's Markets Keep Kansas City Fresh.

From its bustling downtown and arts districts to shopping that’s beyond belief, Kansas City is a metro area that offers a bit of something for everyone. For those who revel in the sights, sounds and fantastic smells and flavors of outdoor farmers market shopping, Kansas City is one of the freshest places to be.

Let’s take a closer look at some of Kansas City’s most famous farmers markets and the types of products, ranging from fresh produce and herbs to baked goods, handmade items and beyond, they offer on any given day.

Farmers Market in The City Market in Kansas City, Missouri
This is one of the area’s biggest and best farmers markets. It’s found within the Kansas City River Market and boasts more than 100 vendors that offer everything from fresh produce and plants to baked goods, flowers and more. Plus, there are the year-round shops and restaurants that make the River Market famous mingling in the mix. This market is open Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Phone: 816-842-1271)

Farmers Market in Downtown Overland Park, Kansas
This is a very large farmers market that runs two days a week from April through October in downtown Overland Park. The market’s many vendors carry such items as produce and herbs and arts and crafts. It’s open on Saturdays starting at 6:30 a.m. and Wednesdays starting at 7:30 a.m.(Phone: 913-642-2222)

The Farmers Market in Historic Parkville, Missouri
This historic market is located at English Landing Park in downtown Parkville. Its many vendors deliver up such offerings as plants, produce and even fresh honey. It runs from April to October. It’s open on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 6 a.m. until the cows go home (or the vendors pack up). (Phone: 816-450-8810)

Kansas City Naturals Organic Farmers Market
This is Kansas City’s first 100-percent-organic market. Everything offered here from the produce to the things made with it, such as breads and pies, is organically grown. Here shoppers will also find “fair trade” coffee, crafts, music, chef demonstrations and even eco-products. (Phone: 816-444-3663)

The Farmers Market in Brookside, Missouri
Featuring artisan breads, baked goods and other delights along with locally grown organic produce and herbs, this market is a favorite of many. It runs April through Oct. 14 on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s held at the Border Star Montessori School, at 63rd and Wornall.

LIberty Farmers Market in Missouri
This market is a mobile market that runs Wednesdays at Crowley’s Furniture, at the intersection of Highways 152 and 291, and on Saturdays at Liberty Square in downtown Liberty, Missouri from 7 a.m. to noon. It features growers from all over the Kansas City metro area. (Phone: 816-792-6000)

Zona Rosa's Farmers Market in Kansas City, Missouri
A regular Tuesday feature at this outdoor shopping mecca June 6 through Sept. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m., this farmers market boasts fresh fruits, vegetables and more. Plus, there are even crafts, jams, honey and all kinds of other goodies to browse, buy and eat. This market is enhanced by the regular offerings at Zona Rosa, making it a favorite for many. Shawnee, Kansas Farmers Market
Running from the first Saturday in May through the last in October, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., this market has a big variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, arts and crafts and fresh-baked goodies. It can be found at 11110 Johnson Drive. (Phone: 913-248-2360)

Olathe, Kansas Farmers Market
Drawing a bevy of growers from 125 miles around Olathe, Kansas, this market features everything from flowers to fresh-baked goods, plus, the fresh produce is a delight. It runs Saturdays May through October from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until vendors sellout. (Phone: 913-971-6263)

Independence, Missouri Farmers Market
Featuring not only fresh produces and baked goods, this market is also famous for its massive arts and crafts displays. It runs on Saturdays from May through October from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Wednesdays June 7 through Oct. 7 at the same time. It can be found at Truman Road, between Main and Liberty.
